Biography

Ambassador Kimmo Lähdevirta (61) has started his diplomatic career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland in 1990. He served as Second Secretary at Permanent Mission of Finland to the UN from 1991 to 1994 in New York, then at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs from 1994 to 1998, as First Secretary at United Nations Unit and European Correspondent at Political Department.

From 1998 to 2003, he was a Political Counsellor at the Embassy of Finland in London. From 2003 to 2005, he was at the position of Director of the European Correspondent Unit, while from 2007 to 2007, he was a Director at the Unit for Security Policy in the Ministry.

From 2007 to 2011, he was a Minister and Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Beijing, while in 2011 he was appointed Ambassador of Finland to Vietnam.

Prior to his appointment as Ambassador of Finland to Serbia in 2019, he was holding a position of Director General, at Department of the Americas and Asia at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in Helsinki.
